Jamshedpur: Yuva Jamshedpur volunteers have taken 22 representatives of different Self Helf Groups (SHGs) on exposure visits to Birsa Agricultural University for learning techniques of poultry and piggery.
12 SHG representatives were taken to Ranchi for learning the methods of poultry on January 10, 2014, while ten others were taken on an exposure visit for learning piggery. They also learnt the methods for starting their own micro business in poultry and piggery.
Yuva Jamshedpur has always held the view that poultry and piggery can provide a sustainable alternative for livelihood, especially for women, in the rural areas. Along with kitchen garden, poultry and piggery have the potential of strengthening the women-folk in the rural areas and it can be turned into a powerful tool to bring about economic strengthening of poor people living in the rural areas.
Birsa Agricultural University is a renowned institution of Jharkhand and Yuva Jamshedpur hopes to organize many more such exposure visits in the near future.
